Welcome to the MOKA Conference for the Blind, here are answers to some questions you may have.

 

Q. What is the MOKA Conference for the Blind?

MOKA stands for Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arkansas, and the conference will introduce the blind and visually impaired to outstanding organizations in the four-state region and beyond that help the blind community. Many of these may be unknown to those who are newly blind, and even those that are not, and our conference will help to inform them of what is in their backyard, and beyond.

Q.How long is the conference?

Two nights and one and half days (August 4 – 6).

Q. Where is the conference located?

The conference is located at the DoubleTree Hotel and Conference Center located at 301 Southeast Walton Boulevard, Bentonville, Arkansas.

Q. How much does the conference cost?

The cost is $150 for the full conference and $100 for just a day pass that includes lunch and the lunch keynote session, breakout sessions and exhibition hall (8 to 5pm).

Q. Are my meals included in my registration?

Lunch (Friday) and dinner (Thursday and Friday) will be included with your registration. Breakfast will be on your own all three days (if you will be staying at the hotel, breakfast will be provided in your hotel fee). 

Q. I have dietary restrictions, what are my options?

We will try our best to accommodate you, but please notate your needs on the registration form.

Q. How do I register for the conference?

The link for registration is located on the front page of the website, and is through the website ChMeetings.

Q. What is the deadline to register for the conference?

July 15, 2022

Q. What should I bring with me when I check-in?

You should bring your email, either printed or via smartphone, with your QR code; or a photo ID. Having your QR code will simplify the check-in process, and is preferred.

Q. What will I receive at check-in?

As a paid attendee, you will receive a name badge, lanyard, and goody bag. If you purchased a t-shirt, you will receive this also.

Q. Will there be transportation to and from the conference?

If you live in Oklahoma there will be a charter bus originating out of Oklahoma City, with possible pickup points in the Tulsa/Muskogee area. The cost for this is $150, and payment must be received no later than May 31st. Some scholarships are available.

Q. What hotels are available to stay at in the area?

We have reserved a certain block of rooms at the DoubleTree, where the conference will be located. Rates are $119 per night, and will include breakfast. To get this rate when calling the hotel, mention: Group Code MOK

Other available options are the Best Western to the East; and the Quality Inn and the Four Seasons to the West (you will have to cross a street to go back and forth from these hotels). 

Q. Is there a pool at the DoubleTree?

If you will be staying at the DoubleTree, they have an indoor pool and fitness center for guests.

Q. What is the latest I can reserve my hotel?

For the DoubleTree: July 15, 2022 to reserve the rate of $119.

Q. What will be included in my conference registration?

You will receive a goody bag with products and information from various organizations; 3 meals will be included (Thursday – dinner, and Friday – both lunch and dinner); access to three general sessions with speakers; choice of 12 breakout sessions; our Wag and Swag Fur Fashion show; a special tour of the Walton Family Crystal Bridges Art Museum; a fantastic exhibitor hall; and much more.

Q. What is the Wag and Swag Fur Fashion Show?

On Thursday night we are going to be entertained by our two and four-legged friends. This will be an opportunity for those who have a guide, whether two or four-legged, to have fun by dressing up in costume (as long as it is G or PG) and strutting their stuff on the cat, er DOG WALK. If you choose to participate, you will need to provide a detailed description of your costumes, because the audience gets to vote on their favorite pairing. The top three winners chosen will be awarded prizes. The form is on the Wag and Swag page on the MOKA website. The deadline to sign up is July 1, 2022.
